This is likely to be the most important blog series I am going to write and possibly the most important one you will read.
Imagine you've decided to buy a purple bicycle. You've never noticed another bicycle of that particular colour before, and yet - all of a sudden - once you are the proud owner, you see them on every corner, whichever way you turn. The universe is delivering you purple bicycles. It's up to you to work out why.
That happened to me with stem cells. It was unexpected and out of the blue. First, I happened to read a fascinating article, all about freezing stem cells for the future. The gist was to preserve your body at a young and healthy age in the hope that cures would be found for previously untreatable diseases in a decade or two. I filed the information for future use and prepared not to do much more about it.
But that's when the universe stepped in... First, an American friend of mine called. She excitedly told me that the Mexican government was doing a special stem cell programme. Fly to Mexico City and get your arthritis fixed, dodgy hip sorted and knees re-invigorated for just a few hundred dollars. She had signed up for all three and off she rushed, promising to report back.
About a month later, another friend called to say she had been hired by a company who had just patented a revolutionary stem cell process that simplified the procedure. I fixed supper to hear all about it. Then, I went to a lecture about a newly created plant based supplement that non-invasively ups your stem cell levels, allowing your body to repair itself wherever necessary. Two weeks ago, I arrived at what I thought was a lecture on the gut only to find it was on another topic entirely: stem cells. I knew I had better get on and listen.
So, what is a stem cell? What do they do? And why do we want more of them?
Alongside the nervous system, the vascular system, blood system, lymphatic system and all the other systems that run us each and every day, the stem cell system is now being defined. This discovery is as major as finding a new solar system, the bodily equivalent of a galactic miracle.
Stem cells may very well be the answer to overcoming the diseases we have struggled with for millennia. The Holy Grail we have been looking for for centuries and the end of mankind's pain. At this moment in time, I don't think I am exaggerating. I would encourage you to do something about it before big pharma gets its hands on monopolising the process and puts it way out of the reach of the majority of us.
Be very careful in your research, before you decide to entrust yourself to one clinic or another. Already 'disaster' stories are being flagged in the press, designed to put you off. But there are charlatan clinics and doctors in every field so make sure you check thoroughly before taking any decision.
And please, for your future health's sake, make sure you read the next few stem cell blogs, which will cover everything I have learnt so far.
